Winkle Ceramic Design is a St. Louis based ceramics studio founded by Artist and Designer Daniel Shapiro specializing in lighting and furniture.
Winkle traces its roots back to the Winkle Terracotta Company, founded in the late 1800's by Daniel's great-great-grandfather Joseph Winkle.
Winkle Ceramic design combines classic ceramic processes with contemporary design tools. The result is work that honors tradition while pushing the boundaries of what clay can do.
Every piece begins with slip-cast components, then assembled by hand. Finishes include custom-tinted Venetian plaster, marbled clay, and a range of proprietary glazes.
The work reflects designer Daniel Shapiro’s background in sculpture and graphic design, combining digital modeling with hands-on craft.
